Event Details

Take your protein pills and put your helmet on, because Major Tom is blasting off this Tuesday, April 10 at 5pm from the back bar. Monk's co-owner Tom Peters and his daughter Isabel Thomas-Peters traveled to Brussels in October, 2017 to brew this Double Saison with Yvan de Baets, master brewer and co-owner of Brasserie De La Senne. A touch of beechwood smoked malt comes through on this super-dry (duh, it's De La Senne) Double Saison. Clocking in at 7.2% abv, this is the strongest beer De La Senne has ever brewed, as well as being their first-ever collaboration with an independent bar. We wanted to brew this beer with our friend Yvan in celebration of our 20th anniversary in 2017, because he has taught us so much about beer, especially microflora, besides being tons of fun to drink Taras Boulba with all night in Brussels or Philly. Yvan confined this special brew to bottles only, in order to control the Brett re-fermentation with his characteristic precision. Major Tom will be available exclusively at Monk's Cafe from Tuesday, April 10 through Philly Beer Week. After PBW, Major Tom will go wide through the US via Shelton Brothers Importers. We look forward to toasting with you on Tuesday! Maybe Tom will tell the story of the label. Ask him.
